Sustainable and Convenient Travel: A Guide to Using Cloth Pads and Accessories Over a Holiday Weekend

Traveling during a holiday weekend can be a delightful experience, offering a much-needed break from the daily routine. For individuals who have made eco-conscious choices, such as using cloth pads instead of disposable ones, maintaining their sustainable lifestyle while on the go is important. This essay will provide a detailed guide on how to travel with cloth pads, pul pad wrappers, and wetbags over a holiday weekend, ensuring both comfort and environmental responsibility throughout your journey.

I. Preparing Your Cloth Pads

Before embarking on your holiday weekend, it's essential to ensure that your cloth pads are clean and ready for use. To do this:

  1. Wash and Dry: Launder your cloth pads thoroughly using a mild detergent. We have a favorite cloth pad and liner wash routine posted in a previous blog post! Click here to check it out! Make sure after washing, all of your pads and liners are completely dry before packing them. This ensures freshness and minimizes odors during your trip.

  2. Organize by Absorbency: Sort your cloth pads by absorbency levels, allowing you to choose the appropriate pad for different activities and times of the day. When taking a large amount of pads, say for a full cycle, we like to take more than one wetbag and fill them by absorbency, such as, one bag filled with lights and liners, one filled with moderate and our NINJA (moderate/heavy) day pads, then a third, if needed, of xheavy and overnight pads. We like to stash an additional wetbag in the liners/lights bag to place used pads in. Depending on the size of your wetbag(s) you may need only one or you may prefer to take multiples as described above so you know exactly which bags have which pads in them and also have plenty of space to put used items. *Expert tip: you can also place worn undergarments, wet clothing, or other similar items in your wetbag when traveling to keep them separate from your clean and dry items. Of course, there is no need to bring your clean pads in a wetbag, but either way we still like to sort them by absorbency for easy retrieval!

II. Choosing the Right Cloth Pad Wrapper, Novel Red's Top Quality PUL

PUL (polyurethane laminate) pad wrappers are ideal for keeping your cloth pads clean and hygienic during your travels. Novel Red's PUL pad wrappers, known for their top quality PUL, offer exceptional performance and contain no harmful chemicals or materials that lesser quality PUL can contain. These wrappers can also serve a dual purpose:

  1. Select Quality PUL Wrappers: Invest in high-quality PUL pad wrappers with a waterproof lining to prevent any leakage onto your other belongings.

  2. Multipurpose Wrappers: Novel Red's PUL pad wrappers can be used to stash a fresh pad in your pocket, purse, or bag for quick access. After changing, you can conveniently place the used pad in the wrapper until you return to your lodging or are able to wash your used pads and liners.

III. Using Wetbags for Convenience (Novel Red Wetbags coming soon!)

Wetbags are essential for storing used cloth pads discreetly and hygienically until you can wash them. Here's how to use them efficiently:

  1. Choose a Suitable Wetbag: Opt for a wetbag with a waterproof lining and a secure zipper or snap closure to prevent leaks and odors. Novel Red will be introducing wetbags here at novelRed.com soon in our favorite size in specially selected PUL prints designed to meet your specific needs.

  2. Pack Spare Wetbags: It's a good idea to pack a few spare wetbags and PUL Pad Wrappers to accommodate any unexpected changes or emergencies.

IV. Managing Cloth Pads During Your Trip

Once you're on your holiday weekend, it's important to manage your cloth pads effectively to ensure comfort and cleanliness:

  1. Change Regularly: Change your cloth pads at regular intervals, just as you would with cloth pads at home or as you would with disposable pads, to maintain hygiene and comfort. This can be anywhere from a couple to a few hours or more depending on your stash, your personal flow and your personal preferences.

  2. Store Used Pads Securely: While on the go, after changing, place the used cloth pad inside a Novel Red PUL pad wrapper to prevent any leakage or odors from affecting your pocket, purse, bag or luggage. Once you return to your lodging you can place the used pad in the empty wetbag with your other used pads and liners until you return home and can wash them.
